Sometimes We Write

The first time Tara Lynn came to Thursday Central, she was writing an article entitled “Travel Will Not Transform You.” Within a few minutes Tara did something that is too rare at our Thursday group: She said, “Read this and tell me what you think.” (See, we’re often so busy catching up, we forget to um.. write.) I read Tara’s first draft and I liked her point of view. It wasn’t a hit-piece on all those Eat Pray Love stories out there, as much as it was an insightful look at why we think travel will change things, but the real change happens at home.

I asked Tara where she was going to publish this, and she said it going up on Medium. com. This revealed a generational divide between me (this is Jon Kile talking) and Tara. I’ve stumbled on a few articles on Medium, but I had no idea what it was. Tara tried to explain it – and then I asked a few other people to explain it, but honestly, I’m still not entirely sure how it works. I’m still trying to figure out why people like Twitter so much.  Nevertheless, Tara is putting up some insightful content up there. In another post, she reflects on her time in Marsh Harbour in the Bahamas, which was recently decimated by hurricane Dorian. From the looks of her profile, and her blog, Tara has more stories to tell than your average twenty-something. (I was just informed she’s not here this week because she’s on a yoga cruise in Italy.)

I have a feeling that this is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Tara’s career(s). Someday, we’ll be trying to convince people that Tara was once a Thursday Central regular.

Thursday Central’ is the online home of a group of writers in St. Pete, Florida. You’ll find anything here from poetry, to short stories, humor, and links to our work out in the world. We meet at 10am every Thursday, typically in a coffee shop somewhere on Central Avenue. The group is open to all, completely informal. We write, we socialize, we drink caffeine, and we share our latest triumphs and setbacks. To find out where we’re meeting next week, contact jkilewrites@gmail.com.
