Today the clouds play cards
and their faces are cut by stone, with
glossed over eyes of granite, finely
I walked by the
Municipal Services Center
where folks pay bills and parking fines and
where that banner hangs calling
Saint Petersburg the City of Sunshine.
I walked by the Newsstand from the
Tamba Bay Times and
in all caps it said,
“Iran Vows Revenge”
and I remembered that book I read, called
“History”, by Jonathan Glover
And I remembered reading on the cycles
Of how every country chooses these terrible toys
as merry go rounds and theme park rides.
And I sighed as I walked by.
It’s Saturday, January 8th
and the clouds played cards today.
